The Hultån is a classic outdoor hatchet and one of the most versatile axes in the Hults Bruk range. Compact and easy to carry, it is a reliable companion for hiking, camping and everyday life in the outdoors. Designed primarily for one-handed use, the Hultån is well suited to the many tasks that come with setting up and maintaining a camp. Preparing kindling and firewood, building a shelter, clearing smaller branches or taking care of general camp chores – its balance and manageable size make it easy to work with and useful in a wide range of situations. The head features a traditional Turpentine pattern with a finger notch that allows you to grip closer to the cutting edge when greater control is needed. Combined with the curved American hickory handle, this gives the Hultån a useful balance between chopping performance, precision and portability. The head is hand-forged at Hults Bruk and hand-sharpened before being fitted to its American hickory handle. Simple, versatile and easy to bring along, the Hultån is a dependable outdoor hatchet made to become a familiar companion over many years of use.

The story behind the name

Hultån takes its name from the stream that flows from Lake Ågelsjön through the valley at Hults Bruk. Water played an essential role in the history of the forge. When Hults Bruk was established in 1697, the location was chosen in part for access to flowing water, which provided the power needed to drive the hammers and machinery of the early works. For generations, water from Ågelsjön flowed through Hultån and helped provide the energy that kept production moving at the forge. Today, the stream continues through Hults Bruk, partly hidden beneath the site in a culvert. By carrying the name Hultån, the hatchet connects one of our most versatile outdoor tools to the waterway that helped power Hults Bruk through centuries of forging.

Product highlight

Hults Bruk axe heads are forged from customized high-quality steel, with an alloy specifically engineered for this purpose, providing exceptional strength and performance. The steel is produced completely CO₂-neutral and is fully recyclable.

Each head is hand-forged using the open-die free forging method. The axe head is then hardened and tempered for long-lasting durability. With a hardness of approximately 54–56 HRC on the Rockwell scale, these axe heads offer superior sharpness and edge retention. The cutting edge is hand-ground and polished to ensure precision and reliability with every swing. As one of the final steps in the forging press, each axe head is proudly stamped with the traditional Hults Bruk mark - a symbol of quality and craftsmanship.
